"But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things."
Reflection: In the account of Jesus Christ's death, Luke stated a few verses earlier that "He breathed His last" Luke 23:46. In just few verses later, Luke seems to have stated that "all His acquaintances" were there. Given this account, there were many witnesses to Jesus' death who had known and followed Him.
Application: The next time you hear a muslim or followers of some other religions make a statement that Jesus did not die on the cross, you can remind them that many people witnessed His death on the cross.
The New King James Version, Lk 23:49. Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982.
Here is an inspiring message regarding preaching the Gospel when it looks like there is no real clear and present reason to share the message. Let this encourage you when it looks discouraging out there facing a world of opposition. You never know what people who hear the Gospel are going through in their own life and what God can do to transform a heart. This video tells the story of how a man was saved from suicide and converted through the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. "His word will not return void."
How do you present the Gospel to followers of islam? Here is a video of a presentation that occurred in Dubai and it involved Thabiti Anyabwile and Bassam Zawadi in a discussion. This is the part by Thabiti and it confronts the problem of sin before a Holy God and provides the true solution to man's problem. It is not by works, but through the grace of God. Ephesians 2:8-9.
The way in which he presents the information helps to understand how forgiveness can be possible. Note how he clearly describes sin and the need for a Savior.
Many people have heard of LOGOS Bible Software before, but the same company that makes LOGOS has released a FREE Study Bible that has some really nice media content... all for free. You can view it on various mobile devices (android, iPhone, iPad) and also on the web for desktop usage. It has an interesting way to dig deeper into study notes. While there has not been enough focus on the content of the running commentary, it looks like something worthwhile for your review. Check out this video and give it a look to see if you think it will work for you. Just checking out the some of the infographics that are provided is helpful. It can be handy to have a mobile version of a Bible that you can reference during evangelism outreaches. Also, you can tell others you are witnessing to that they can get an absolutely FREE Study Bible, so long as they are connected to the internet. Check out the video here below, or get it by clicking here.
I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 2 Timothy 4:1–2, NKJV
Reflection: When Paul wrote to his trusted son in the faith, Timothy, he "charged" him with an instruction, "Preach the word!" He also told him when to do it... "in season and out of season." It sounds like an ongoing ministry of doctrinal proclamation to spread the message of God's word and it would include the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.
Application: We too are charged with spreading the Word of God found in the Bible. We need to be so filled with the Word of God that we pour forth God's wisdom when we encounter others. Study the Word and proclaim the Good News to others you meet.
